We’ve been known to have some crazy ideas; no one wants to write or publish my book? No porblems…let’s make it in to a movie (with no experience whatsoever at the time). Walk the Camino> Sure but why start in St Jean…let’s just leave from where we are (and add an extra 1200km…). Latest…publishers are not putting a lot of time into booktours. Expensive and people don’t turn up. not enough books sold to make it worthwhile…Well we kind of agreed then changed our mind. Bookshops are the bedrock of many communities, particularly rural and remote. But even in down town Carlton…well Readings is part of the fabric of Lygon St. You can’t browse, bump into friends and duck out for a wine or movie sitting at home scrolling through oline sellers.
So we thought if we’re going to tour, we’d think big. If we’re going to support one (and we so want to – it has been very sad seeing some close) then we’ll support them all. Starting on 27th March in Brisbane (quick flight) we cam back to Melboune for a launch and then our local community in Lanacefield (Double Oaks wine, Pete Walsh from Woodend on keyboards) and go into the swing of things with a lot of love felt. The readers in Aesops in Kyneton applauded us as we came in, we’ve been bumping into friends, family and people I trained with. This is a bookshop tour – all 400-450 of them, but also with a mental health focus. The Glass House is the gritty real acute mental health drama (think House with Gray’s Anatomy emotional arcs) that is told as it is. Mental health workers – relive your training and give it to friends and families to show what you really do (and that you aren’t Nurse Ratched!)
We will be touring for the next four months – follow us on https://greataustralianbookshoptour.com.au/
